The US Department of Justice tells us:

  • 90% of crime is opportunistic;
  • Acts of violence occur every 15 seconds in the United States;
  • Six million American women are beaten each year by their husbands or boyfriends and four thousand of those women are killed.
While these statistics are sobering, women should live in a state of awareness, not in a state of fear.  As a service to our community, the Hurst Police Community Services Division offers women's safety training throughout the year.

This comprehensive course covers risk awareness, risk reduction, crime prevention strategies, defensive tactics and hands-on training in defense techniques.  The primary focus of these courses is prevention.  Many potentially dangerous situations can be prevented with very basic, common sense strategies that apply to everyday life.  If a confrontation can not be prevented, escape is the second line of defense.  Students learn techniques that can help them survive an attack and escape. These techniques are simple, intuitive, and easy to retain.  Students are given the opportunity to test their new skills in a simulated, controlled environment at whatever level they feel most comfortable.

In addition to scheduled events, we offer customized presentations, adapting the curriculum to the needs and time frame of your group.  It is our goal to provide you with the skills needed to assess a threat and to react in a way to minimize harm to yourself.   Please call 817.788.7375 for more information.
