Once a case is received by the Criminal Investigations Division, it is assigned to a detective.  Cases are assigned based on the elements of the offense and the investigative focus required by the investigators.

In January, 2000, Kaysone Khounpanya, DOB 06/02/1950, an Asian female, was murdered at her residence on the far west side of Hurst.  The police department was called to check on Kaysone's welfare by a friend who had not seen her for a week.  Officers checked the residence and found her body.  The case remains unsolved.

In November, 1999, Debra Criqui, DOB 03/05/1958, a white female was reported missing.  Upon police investigation of the disappearance, the circumstances were suspicious.  It was determined by evidence found at the scene, that Debra was murdered.  There have been no arrests in this case and the body has not been found.
