Post Oak-Parker Cemetery

Post Oak-Parker Cemetery is located in Southwest Hurst at 1301 Cardinal Lane. It is located on 2.4 acres and features two historical markers. The markers include the 1968 marker titled “Parker Cemetery” and the 1984 marker titled “I.D. Parker Public Cemetery”. Additionally, in 2020, Post Oak-Parker Cemetery was designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery (HTC) by the Texas Historical Commission and proudly displays the HTC medallion at the cemetery entrance. This designation is an official status for cemeteries at least 50 years old that possess tangible historical associations.

In 2020, the City completed the cemetery’s latest project, which included the enclosure of the property with a 6 ft. wrought iron fence with stone columns at the northeast and northwest corners, a service entrance, an enhanced stone ADA-accessible pedestrian entrance at Cardinal Drive featuring a metal archway with the full name “Post Oak-Parker Cemetery”, flower beds with irises, a sitting area with benches inside the cemetery, as well as locking wrought iron gates for the service and pedestrian entrances.

Cemeteries function as open spaces that provide respite from the hustle and bustle of our lives. It is a place of reflection where all citizens may benefit from the peace and calm provided by the right setting. Historic cemeteries have the added value of being places of cultural interest and education.

The Post Oak-Parker Cemetery is a place that combines all of the above. It contains a good stand of trees, many of which are post oaks, adding to the site’s historic character. The cemetery’s location is unique, with its elevated position overlooking Fort Worth down to the Trinity Valley.
