During the second quarter of 2024, businesses in the City of Hurst recorded an impressive 7,446,500 visits. The city welcomed 37 new Certificate of Occupancy applications, with diverse businesses—including law firms, restaurants, electrical services, salons, retail stores, and medical offices—filling vacancies in strip centers and stand-alone buildings. Notably, The Westland Group purchased the beloved Pulido’s, which is now undergoing renovations, while a Jack in the Box that sat vacant for a decade is being transformed into Juicy’s Soul Food, breathing new life into the area.

In May, Hurst participated in Lemonade Day, a nation-wide program that empowers youth to learn business skills through running their own lemonade stands. With guidance from parents, teachers, or mentors, participants set goals, create products, budget, seek investors, choose locations, design marketing plans, and provide customer service. Girl Scout Troop 1333 partnered with O’Reilly Auto Parts on Precinct Line Rd., raising $333 for 6 Stones and earning three Junior Girl Scouts their Entrepreneur Merit Badges and Bronze Award for volunteer hours. https://youtu.be/hQz6HaDp99I

After the January closure of Kelly Moore Paints, Hurst was thrilled when GPS Paints purchased the 337,000-square-foot facility, retaining many former employees due to their expertise. This acquisition ensures the continuation of production in the recently renovated manufacturing plant.

In May, Hurst Economic Development, alongside Bedford and the HEB Chamber, attended the 2024 ICSC, (The International Council of Shopping Centers) exploring development opportunities for newly acquired properties. Housing remains a key focus, particularly on the 4-acre site next to Pulido’s on Precinct Line Rd. and along Highway 10, where residential infill projects are already underway.

There are more exciting developments underway that Hurst is eager to share!
