Utility Box Art Project
Leave Your HeART on Hurst
The Utility Box Art Project has transformed 40 utility boxes across the city into colorful artwork, each phase celebrating a unique theme and bringing local creativity to life.
In Phase One, “Community Built on Connection,” City Council and the Hurst Community Arts and Historic Landmark Preservation Committee selected nineteen local artists and community members to showcase the people, places, and stories that bring Hurst together. The designs highlighted parks, history, and facilities, with vinyl wraps installed in 2022 across north and south Hurst.
The following year, Phase Two, “The Building Blocks of Hurst,” invited ten more artists to capture the city’s evolution through time. Their designs celebrated the contributions of individuals, organizations, industries, and schools that shaped Hurst’s past and continue to influence its future.
Most recently, in May 2025, the City Council and the Library & Cultural Enrichment Board approved Phase Three, “Pets and Wildlife of Hurst.” Twelve artists were chosen to capture the joy of pets, the beauty of local wildlife, and the unique connection between humans and animals.
Together, these three phases have turned ordinary utility boxes into extraordinary works of art—strengthening connections, preserving history, and celebrating the natural beauty of Hurst. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to explore these art pieces scattered throughout the city and experience firsthand how creativity continues to shape the heart of Hurst.
