The City of Hurst periodically increases the amount of well water we produce to supplement the wholesale water we purchase from the City of Fort Worth. We typically increase the amount we produce during the hottest time of the year to help manage our wholesale water costs. During this time, some residents may experience a change in the taste, smell, and feel of their water. Typically, 95-98% of the water from your tap is surface water purchased from the City of Fort Worth. The other 2-5% comes from a blend of well water utilized to offset demand at peak times and is usually unnoticeable to customers. The high demand, high temperatures, and lower rainfall has created the need for well water to be blended at a higher percentage than our customers are accustomed to. While this well water supply is in high use, the water is being monitored on a continual basis to ensure the water meets strict Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines and is safe to use. In the meantime, water conservation efforts can help relieve the need to mix a higher amount of well water.
