Pursuit HPD26-00710
Officers were dispatched on March 22, 2026, to an investigation near the 700 block of Highway 26 around 11:30 a.m. involving a U-Haul Truck being driven erratically. The driver had reportedly exited the vehicle and was yelling at unknown persons. Officers arrived to investigate around 11:35 a.m. and made contact with the male, later identified as Justin Vance Carter, who had active warrants for his arrest. When officers attempted to detain the male, he fled the scene in the U-Haul, briefly dragging one Hurst officer before they were able to be pulled away by a second officer. The suspect then circled around and drove directly at another Hurst officer.
When the officer was able to get behind a barrier to avoid being struck, the vehicle fled from the scene. Hurst officers pursued the vehicle at low speeds for approximately an hour through multiple jurisdictions. Our partners at North Richland Hills, Haltom City, and Watauga Police Departments assisted in the pursuit until he was taken into custody by Hurst officers at 12:41p.m.
Justin Vance Carter is being charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Evading in a Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, along with his preexisting warrants.
This is an ongoing investigation. We appreciate the assistance of our partners at North Richland Hills, Haltom City, and Watauga Police Departments leading to the successful apprehension of this suspect without any major injuries to any officers.
