Winter Weather Preparedness/Facility Closures

Post Date:01/22/2026 12:18 p.m.

Update - 1/27/26 at 1:45 p.m.

Road conditions continue to be icy due to temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s. Major roads like Precinct Line, Harwood Road, and SH 10 are mostly clear but still have ice and sleet on them. Overnight temperatures will drop below freezing, causing roads to refreeze overnight. We expect roads to be slick with possible black ice overnight and into the morning hours. We recommend staying home, but if you must leave, be cautious while driving.

Most city facilities are now open during normal operating hours.
January 27 - The Hurst Public Library and Hurst Recreation Center close early tonight at 6 p.m. before temperatures drop below freezing.
January 28 - The Hurst Recreation Center and Hurst Senior Activities Center will have a delayed opening at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Republic Services will remain closed today. All recycling will be suspended this week, and they will run regular trash routes on Thursday and Friday.

Update - 1-25-26 at 4 p.m.

Non-emergency City facilities are closed Monday, January 26, due to forecasts of extreme cold and potentially hazardous travel conditions. Our emergency services continue to operate as usual.

Republic Services will not run trash and recycling collection on Monday and will be delayed by one day. If service is normally provided on Monday, then it is scheduled to run on Tuesday. We will share additional information through our communication channels if there are any changes impacting City facilities or trash and recycling services for Tuesday.

Update - 1/23/26 at 10 a.m.

Due to anticipated inclement weather, the Hurst Recreation Center, Hurst Tennis & Pickleball Center, Hurst Public Library, and Hurst Animal Services & Adoption Center will be closed to the public on Saturday, January 24, and Sunday, January 25. These temporary closures are necessary to ensure the safety of our community members and staff amid below-freezing temperatures and potentially hazardous road conditions. Emergency services will continue as usual. We appreciate your understanding and patience. We will share updates through our communication channels as more information becomes available.
