Today, 9/19/2025 at approximately 2 p.m., a procession for Chief Steve Niekamp, who passed away yesterday, will begin at the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office and continue to the Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, in Hurst, TX.
The City of Hurst is deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Police Chief Steve Niekamp due to a health complication. His exceptional leadership and commitment to serving our residents with the highest level of professionalism will leave a lasting impact on our organization and community. Steve was a dedicated public servant who had been with the Hurst Police Department since 1990 and served as the police chief since January 2018.
“Chief Niekamp dedicated his life to serving the Hurst community. He consistently led with integrity and demonstrated unwavering loyalty and appreciation to his team. Chief Niekamp will be dearly missed,“ said City Manager Clay Caruthers.
“Chief Niekamp was a good friend of mine as well as an impressive police chief. This is a tragic loss for us, and my heart goes out to his loved ones and the members of the Hurst Police Department.” – Mayor Henry Wilson
