Did you know...

Texas is #1 in the nation for child pool drownings? To help combat this, we teamed up with Cook Children's to promote water safety this summer. We are passing out #WaterWatcher badges at the end of each session of swim lessons, and educating parents on the importance of vigilance around water. What can you do to keep your loved ones safe around the pool, lake, or river? Stay off your phone, watch your child (no one knows them like you do), and don’t use air filled floaties as they are considered toys, not flotation devices.

Fasten your life jackets!

Kids with lifejackets

Life jackets are a very important part of water safety. Do you know what to look for when it comes to finding the right life jacket for you or your child? U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets are the way to go. Look for the U.S. Coast Guard approved label on the inside of the jacket. Make sure the life jacket fits properly. Central and Chisholm Aquatics Centers offer free U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets for all sizes.

Stay Cool!

It is important to stay cool and hydrated during the summer, especially when temperatures get into TRIPLE DIGITS. This weekend and into next week, North Texas will experience 100+ degree temperatures. In order to protect yourselves against the extreme heat, it's important to take proper precautions, whether you're enjoying one of our Parks, Aquatics Centers, or the Recreation Center. Play hard, have fun, and be safe! #PlayonJuly #hurstrec #HurstSwims #hurstparks
