Trasa CorbernTrasa Cobern
Councilmember (Place 4)

Councilmember Trasa Cobern was born in Landstuhl, Germany while her father was stationed there as a U.S. Army soldier. The family would return to Germany twice more, culminating in a six-year tour where Trasa spent her junior high and high school years in a Department of Defense school, graduating from Zweibruecken American High School. She attended Texas A&M on a full academic scholarship, having never been to Texas before she attended college. She graduated cum laude with a BA in Political Science.

She met and married Kyle Cobern, a 1985 graduate of L.D. Bell High School, during college and afterwards they made their home in the Mid-Cities area. They have owned a home in Hurst since 2003.

Trasa stayed home with her children until they all were in school, then felt called into teaching. She graduated from the University of North Texas with a Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education in History, and was immediately hired by Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, where she currently teaches U.S. History and IB History of the Americas at Trinity High School.

Trasa has a firm belief in servant leadership, and has served this community in many ways for the past twenty years. She is a strong PTA member and leader, serving in some capacity at the following schools: Bedford Heights Elementary, Bedford Junior High, Bell High School, Central Junior High and Trinity High School. She has been the Director of Publicity and Historian for MidCities PeeWee Football and Cheerleading since 2009, and has served on various HEB ISD campus and district committees as well.

She believes that the most important government is local, so Trasa wanted to get involved with the City of Hurst. In 2013, she was appointed to the Neighborhood and Community Advisory Committee, where she worked on an important multi-family rental property inspection ordinance later put into city code by the Council. In 2015, she was appointed to the Library Board. She was elected to the Hurst City Council on May 7, 2016.

Her husband, Kyle, is her biggest supporter, closely followed by her four sons, Brady, Caden, Jaxon and McCrae.
